To keep up my theme of “Shove it up your butthole Mary Matalin,” I present yet another Real Actual Policy that Republicans like to stick their fingers in their ears and la-la-la ignore.

Within the last week, the Defense Department completed its Quadrennial Defense Review, which combines the worst of politics and turf battles. It theoretically lays out the future vision of the US armed forces and how to achieve it. Not surprisingly, the QDR pays good lip service to this whole “asyymmetric warfare” thing and supporting the Revolution in Military Affairs. But the law - and more importantly, the budget - does nothing to actually support that goal. The Bush Admininstration - nay, the whole Republican Party - claims to be the sole proprietor of the ability to keep Americans safe. But here’s the problem: they’re lying. They make their soldiers shell out $700 for “missing body armor” after they’re blown up by IEDs. They waste money on Cold War weapons systmes - and on offensive nuclear weapons that totally destabilize global nonproliferation efforts . They submit a proposal to actually CUT the active duty armed forces while we’re forcing our Reserve troops into effective indentured servitude with this Stop Loss crap.

So for those of you la-la-la-I’m-not-listening a-holes, here is the progressive vision for homeland defense and military strength. Might also be of interest to you left wing defense policy wonks.
