In-town voters
Posted by shelbinator under Politics
I try not to venture into anything straight-faced or factual on thissy-here blog, but I’ve put too much time into this campaign not to bring it up in every venue possible, especially considering some of the lethargy I’ve encountered on other fronts.
For those of you in east Midtown, Virgina/Poncey Highlands, L5P, Edgewood and other points in South Fulton along the Dekalb County border, listen up. I know plenty of you out there who get all hot under the collar about President Bush and other loonies in Washington but wouldn’t know your local Democratic representatives from a tree stump. I know, local politics just ain’t all that exciting until you walk past a storm drain and succumb to the smell of human waste and realize that there are people under the Gold Dome that don’t care if the same happens to your feedwater streams. So I really hope you’ll take the time this Tuesday to go vote in the primaries — it’s not a November Tuesday, and you might think it doesn’t matter because you live in a bright blue district in the sea of red, but there are people you need to pick now who will fight harder for you than their rivals within the same party.
If you happen to live in State Senate District 36, that person is Nan Orrock. She’s been kicking butt and taking names in the House for 20 years, and she’ll do the same in the Senate next year. Unfortunately, her opponent is going around to the precincts in which she’s not as well known and trying to paint her as a closet Republican, which is about the most ridiculous charge I’ve heard since I got involved in local politics. So I’m appealing to the five or ten people (because five or ten votes really starts to add up) who might read this post and who might not be all that engaged in any race below the contentious gubernatorial fight: have confidence in Nan Orrock. If you’d never heard of the Senate candidates, you might have walked into the voting booth and thought, “Huh, Nan Orrock. That’s a weird name. I’m gonna vote for this other lady, she has a nice sounding name.” Don’t be fooled. She won’t be anywhere near as effective working for you; there’s a reason she hasn’t been in the Assembly lately.
If you want to hear it from the candidate and her friends, click away:

nan is awesome — i’ve met her a couple of times, and she is most definitely NOT a closet republican. she’s one of the most steadfast progressives in the house, in my opinion. i wish i could vote for her myself, but i live in david adelman’s senate district (also a great guy).
