Politics for dummies

I suppose it should be expected for an organization with serious budgetary and policy weight to throw around, but I have to wonder what Young Dems could better do with time wasted overthinking internal elections.
So much for playing on the same team.

Veekin out?

Kids these days: so many toys, I can’t keep up. I’m only 32 and I seriously feel like I might as well get on board the “I have no idea what kids these days are talking about” bandwagon, because it’s just moving so flippin’ fast.
Nonprofits are trying to keep up because they […]

Conservative hate: Dennis Prager et al on Keith Ellison

Conservatives say that America is largely a conservative country and that conservatives are the majority of Americans. If they’re right, moments like this make it seem like their success is based on the fact that their movement is, at its core, a movement of hate, and it’s a lot easier to hate than to try […]

Gobble guzzle!

Interesting and fun to know fact #12: sweet potatoes do not want to be mashed and rolled up into little balls quite so easily as regular potatoes, so think twice and check your head before you get any ideas about making a Thanksgiving-themed papas rellenas appetizer with turkey-cranberry-jerk sauce picadillo. Just stop right there. […]

Ring-a-ling my ding-a-ling

For some reason, canvassing afflicts me with a palsy, or at least it seemed that way after I had dropped my cellphone for the sixth or seventh time in ten days of last-minute GOTV. And on the eighth or ninth time, on that cold, cold election morning at oh-dark-hundred, the case actually popped open […]

Dulled blue dot in a big red splotch

Being a Georgia Democrat in Atlanta used to come with the reassurance of being among friendlies — living inside the perimeter meant being somewhat insulated from the rural red-staters who controlled the state’s state of affairs. I-285 was a security blanket.
Now, the bright blue dot seems almost invisible, drowned out by the […]

5 a.m. sucks

At 5 a.m., I don’t really care if we take back the state or the House or the Senate or event the dog-catcher. Blargh.
I wonder how much it would cost to win our race if our last minute strategy was to buy a bunch of Vonage stater kits and chuck them high-speed at their […]

Ready steady go

This feels unnervingly like the night before big cross-country meets in high school. You’ve trained, you’ve thought through the course, you’ve got nothing left to do but survive the next day. This is a lot different from 2004. In 2004, the extent of my political activities consisted of two beverage-oriented parties to […]
