At 5 a.m., I don’t really care if we take back the state or the House or the Senate or event the dog-catcher. Blargh.
I wonder how much it would cost to win our race if our last minute strategy was to buy a bunch of Vonage stater kits and chuck them high-speed at their heads anytime we identified a Republican on their way to the polls? Woo-hoo, woo-hoo-hooooo….
Update: Check the YDAtl Blog for video updates from the campaign trail, though I am forced to work with the slowest WinXP AMD-box in the free world to upload them.

I woke up at 5:30 this morning and got all ready and some stuff. I get to the polling place by 6:20 and it was as empty as empty can be. So now I have a long, long time before I have to go to work and a big, big amount of coffee left.
YEE HAW.

I know that I used to wake up at 5:00AM when I had a real job. But I don’t remember much about it. There was a lot of shuffling, some coffee, and darkness.
Oh, and sometimes coyotes.

The coyotes.
Animals or people?
I guess it depends on how close to the border you are. I guess you could really see both kinds, you know, if you look hard enough.

PS - I think that Britney Spears filing for divorce on an election day is a cheap publicity stunt.

For Stephanie:
I used to walk my dog at that hour, too. Part of the route involved the wash between my old house and El Dorado (the street. you know the one). In the winter, we saw a lot of coyotes. Or maybe the same one. It was both cool and scary.
One of my former students was picked up in San Diego for being another kind of coyote, but I never saw him in the wash.

Wasn’t it a glorious night? : )

Not down here. I could hardly even try to enjoy the national successes, because after months and months of effort, YDAtl went home empty handed after our candidate in Sandy Springs got resoundingly defeated by a complete and utter douchebag. And the Lt. Gov. candidate I’ve sent a good bit of money and some time got trounced as well, also by a douchebag.
Turnout was dismal — maybe 60% of what it was in 2004. Part of that was surely just the fact that these were only midterms, but the weather was cold and rainy all day.
Our democracy is just pathetic. When we get excited about a 50% turnout, that’s just a big red flag. Anyone who didn’t vote yesterday can bite my ass; anyone who was dissuaded by a little rain can bite my ass and then die.

Oh cheer up. You all had a really big mountain to climb in one of the reddest of the red states. The GOP got the message you were sending (even if your particular messengers didn’t make it). Rummy’s gone (wonder if those out-of-work Republicans don’t wish he could have done that sooner). There is hope. And hey, remember–as bad a day as you’re having, the Young Repulicans of Atlanta (YRATL?) can’t exactly throw a party.

I heart you, Shelby. I know that you worked hard, and I’m sorry that you didn’t see the results you wished you had. Still, I want you to know that your passion for the cause is an inspiration, and I admire your talent, your wit, and how emotionally invested you are in political issues. I also know how frustrated you are that everyone else in the world is not as dedicated, but your work does make a difference even if you can’t see the immediate rewards.
Hmm. I’m starting to sound a bit like you.
