Gotta love country towns
Posted by shelbinator under Cool things, Culture
I just discovered (after Lord knows how long) the new Google Maps feature that lets you drag and drop the suggested route to create your own alternatives. It only came to my attention as I looked at the goofy dog-leg interstate route from Atlanta to Charleston (in the hope that I might get a press pass to the next Democratic Debate, or at least a ticket), and I wanted to find a shorter distance backroads way to get there (we gotta conserve gas, you know, or Fox Nooz will call us hypocrites).
And that’s when I discovered another awesome thing — not about Google, but about South Carolina. If I felt like taking a detour on my trip, I could drive from Finland to Denmark to Sweden to Norway in under 20 minutes. I mean, I thought passing through Lebanon and Mexico while leaving Indiana was cool, but doing the whole Scandinavian circuit in 20 minutes in SC? That’s just awesome.
I wonder if they have a good diner in them parts. Or little gummy fish.
What’s the weirdest route you’ve ever taken? Top that, I dare ya.

ooh, trust me Shelby you don’t want to take that route. I go through all those towns all the town, including Olar. No Scandinavian architecture…just spped limits that drop from 60 to 35 mph in 50 ft. distance. Plus they are doing construction on the road.
Don’t let Google fool ya — it’s not 20 minutes.
