YouTube has announced its new on-video advertising plan (which a lot of the MSM has parroted as “brand new” according to the YT press release even though plenty of other good video services were already way ahead of the game), and the response from the internet has been generally pissed off.

YouTube has always been a thorn in my side (but if you want to be cool — and O Lord how I so want to be cool — you gotta play with the cool kids on their turf), which is why I still use blip.tv in tandem, because blip.tv kicks YouTube’s ass. Still, this requires me to export two versions of any video shot on my camcorder: a native widescreen version for its full potential at blip.tv, and a letterboxed version for YouTube’s boring 4:3 aspect ratio player.

Suddenly, with these popup ads about to cover up people’s rambling, impulse webcam confessionals well thought-out and highly polished webisodes, I now have two good reasons to export that letterboxed version.
