Bill Richardson spent Friday, October 5, in Atlanta, GA, where he chartered a Spanish-named campaign infrastructure in a state with its fair share of anti-immigrant sentiments; enjoyed a lonely lunch at the Varsity with a nutritious “Yellow Dog;” and, in a bit of a switch, helped local Democrats raise a little money for their efforts here at home.

After meeting with the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus and stopping into CNN for some multilingual interviews, he visited with the Georgia Tech Young Democrats and chartered the Georgia chapters of Mi Familia con Bill Richardson, the campaign’s grassroots mobilization effort. When asked about the potential downside to direct ethnic branding of their campaign infrastructure, a campaign staffer said that it had been considered and dismissed, as any potential votes lost to objections over ethnicity were probably unattainable in the first place.

There was a quick lunch break at the Varsity — a local must-try attraction in the fast food market — where the disappointingly low turnout highlighted the downside to being a lonely “second tier” candidate, regardless of your resume. A highbrow fundraiser followed at the Globe, and finally the governor addressed — for free, in terms of his take from the event — friends of the Georgia Association of Democratic County Chairs (GADCC) and the Young Democrats of Georgia at the IBEW auditorium.
