At 10am CST, Sen. Joe Biden will be delivering an address on energy and climate security in Johnston, IA. Appropriately enough for an energy policy speech, he’ll be giving it at a gas station.
Inappropriately enough for anyone with an inner 12-year-old and the associated sense of humor, what appears to be quite the popular gas station & quick-mart chain in Iowa is Kum & Go. Quite the popular, dirty, anonymous, no-strings gas station.
I’m sorry, there’s just no way I can take that seriously. Larry Craig jokes aside, it’s not the kind of non-committal, kame & went kind of message I’d want to deliver in selecting a venue were I a second tier candidate poised to strike at the “inevitable” leader in the caucuses.

Oh, now THAT was funny! I can’t believe anyone would name their company that. Must be a true hayseed. Can’t believe no one in Biden’s campaign suggested choosing a place with a name less likely to appear in comedy. Your post is hilarious!

Yeah, I thought maybe I shouldn’t make fun of my own guy’s event, but kum on. And I figure it’s “just one of those Iowa things;” IA and NH get to put the candidates to all kinds of goofy tests like showing up at certain diners, eating certain foods, and pledging to use some ridiculous source of ethanol for our energy needs, because of their make-or-break status in the primaries. K&G is apparently all over Iowa like, uh, a cold sore, so I guess it makes more sense to have it there if you’re actually in the state.

Yeah, last March on our way to KC for a baseball and barbecue road trip we couldn’t help but notice all of the Kum & Gos. It really sounds like something that belongs just outside of vegas, not within spitting distance of the John Wayne Birthplace Museum.
