Critical Mass reprise
Atlanta Journal-Constitution reporter Stacy Shelton previewed the Critical Mass bike ride last week.
Starting about 6:30 p.m., more than 300 bicyclists plan to take over several lanes of traffic, shoving King Car aside.
They call it Critical Mass. It’s a rolling message board that says “Bicycles have a right to the road too!”
During last month’s ride, a […]

Sex and the Strangers
You know a movie has gotten annoying amounts of undeserved publicity when Howard Kurtz is talking about it on Reliable Sources. So if you, too, would rather the four New York divas just retire to the woods to die (or anything that will get them off your Twitter stream), then you ought to enjoy […]

ST08: Still Called to Serve
On Memorial Day, I always remember my maternal grandfather, Captain Edward F. Zimmerman, MD, USN, who served on the USS Shasta during World War II. Thoughts of him are usually accompanied by a twinge of regret that I didn’t follow in his footsteps in naval service, a career decision I am still trying to […]

Brand this!
I don’t care what it’s called, I would totally subscribe to that guy’s blog or bring him on board projects and campaigns. Just look at how amazingly citizen journalismy he looks! And sweaty, too!
If you feel like turning this into a caption contest, knock yourselves out, but this image will definitely be incorporated […]

A blogger’s branding problem
So this is the internet, huh? Well who do I need to shag to get ahead around here?
Alright, I don’t think I need to go that far. But I wonder if I need a better brand. The last few weeks have been pretty good for me and the internet, but my successes […]

Inventing their future
I’ve still got a ton of footage from ISEF that I hope to boil down into a more in-depth review when time allows this week. But in the meantime, here’s what I could knock out overnight for the token MTV piece — embedded for your viewing pleasure, though it deprives me of any playcount […]

The ISEF08 winners have been announced, and the recipients of the grand prize scholarships are these fine young ladies (left to right, below): Natalie Omattage of Cleveland, MS; Yi-Han Su of Taipei, Taiwan (I’m politically […]

Cute girl, but what the HECK is she saying?
So um, someday your laptop computer won’t roast the tops of your thighs, and it has something to do with nano light waveguide things. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go light my master’s degree on fire and hide under my desk while I try to process all that I heard in […]

Weird science! Brains rain on Atlanta
The Intel International Science and Engineering Fair is underway in our fair city of Atlanta. Today and tomorrow the kids are being judged — judged I tell you! Scrutinized, interrogated, and judged, and lucky for them (and not for us), this part of the fair is not open to the public. So […]

Invisible Shield: protect your gadget by not using it
A couple weeks ago I saw @waynesutton tweet about ordering an Invisible Shield™ cover for his new N95. That reminded me that I had seen the rather impressive video demonstrating this polymer film’s toughness on YouTube. Developed originally to protect the leading edge of military helicopter blades, they say, the stuff has ridiculous […]
